Shrimp, Beef Broth and Jasmine Tea
I love shrimp! I love eggs! I begged and pleaded, don’t take them away from me. All these years the nutritional gurus have been telling us they’re high in cholesterol and if you eat these two foods you will have a heart attack! Now, well conducted studies show that low-fat shrimp and eggs, substituted for fatty foods, do not raise blood cholesterol and are not a major contributor to heart disease. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says despite all that cholesterol, shrimp is perfectly good for you.
This is no longer a health concern, because shrimp is low-fat with a rich content of highly unsaturated fatty acids, which lead to the formation of high-density lipids, commonly known as “good cholesterol”. Consuming shrimp may actually lower Blood Cholesterol Levels.
So, here’s a great shrimp dish I make quite often. The original recipe came out of an old Weight Watcher Cookbook, but as always (something I learned from my Grandma) I usually throw in a few extras to make it taste better and substitute some ingredients, but it’s still healthy cooking. I lost 40 lbs. on these recipes even with additions. Here’s a tip I would like to pass on about fish. I always soak it in milk before cooking; it seems to take away any bad fishy taste.

shrimp question / cholesterol?
i have GERD and am trying to eat healthier, i got some shrimp to cook (not fried) just add a lil butter thats got low fat, only concern is cholesterol, does shrimp have good cholesterol or bad cholestrol Thank you, : )
Many people are confused about the fat and cholesterol content of shrimp. Shrimp is very low in total fat, yet it has a high cholesterol content (about 180 milligrams in 3.5 ounces, or 12 large boiled shrimp). Some people have avoided eating shrimp precisely because of its high cholesterol content. However, based on research involving shrimp and Blood Cholesterol Levels, avoidance of shrimp for this reason does not seem justified. Shrimp’s cholesterol is harder to absorb than that from other high-fat foods, although the reasons are not known.
What you should do is use olive oil to sautee them with, add some chopped garlic, chopped parsley and lime juice to them.
Or have some shrimp ceviche, it’s not only healthy but you will eat a lot of tomatoes with it.
Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 3 hours, 00 minutes Ingredients:
* 3 lbs small raw shrimp, cleaned * 4 large tomatoes, seeded and diced * 6 limes, juiced * 4 lemons, juiced * 1 cup cilantro leaves, chopped * 1 serrano chile, seeded and finely chopped * 1/2 of a cucumber, peeled and diced * 1 red onion, diced * salt and pepper to taste * 3 tablespoons tomato sauce
Preparation: Lay out shrimp in the bottom of glass baking dish. Pour lemon and lime juice over them and refrigerate for 3 hours. The juice will “cook” the shrimp. Toss with remaining ingredients and refrigerate for one more hour or longer. Enjoy with tortilla chips or as a topper for grilled fish!
