Does breastfeeding really help you lose weight?
I have been breastfeeding my daughter for almost 9 months now and weigh 22 lbs less than before I even got pregnant. Does breastfeeding alone (no dieting) cause such a significant weight loss?
Milk production burns calories, so women who breastfeed burn an average of 500 extra calories per day. However, many women are hungrier because of the extra energy (calories) needed to produce milk, and if they aren’t careful in what they eat, they can actually gain weight!
That is my dietitian answer (because I am a dietitian), and that is what I know to be true.
BUT, I am also breastfeeding an almost 9 month old baby, and I haven’t been dieting at all because no matter what I eat, my weight just keeps falling off. Some of us will burn more than the extra 500 calories that is estimated most women burn. And lucky for us, we are burning those calories away!

So, I found out a couple of months ago that I had hypthyroidism, which explains a lot since I gained weight and couldn’t get it off. For about three weeks now my thyroid levels have normalized but I still gained more weight, plus sometimes I feel a little weird, so I wonder if its because of the medication, like a side-effect. Shouldn’t the meds to stabilize my hormones, are they making me gain weight, shouldn’t they help me lose it at this point? Or maybe I’m just being a fatty.
You need to your levels checked again. Its depends on your meds but I don’t think its a side effect. You have to watch what you eat a little bit better as hypothyroidism is not kind to the figure. If the weird feeling is tiredness I would say get your medicine douse increased.
