Atkins Diet and Cholesterol
Over the years since the Atkins diet has been first presented, the
reviews referring to the health of the program have been various at best. One of the factors
that have been looked at in these studies is the relation between the Atkins diet and cholesterol levels. In fact, the opposite has found
to be the case in many of the studies involving the Atkins diet, diabetes and cholesterol.
Many people who took part in the Atkins diet program have in reality seen a cut down in triglycerides, a
rise in HDL (“good” cholesterol), and a better ratio between the HDL’s and the LDL’s. These exalting results suggest that those on the
Atkins diet with cholesterol problems may actually be able to adjust cholesterol levels by themselves without the help of drugs or other
types of treatment. This is great for those who have lost fat on the Atkins diet program.
Is the Atkins Diet a Hi Cholesterol Diet?
When considering the core value of the diet and the base of the food pyramid, the Atkins diet is sure enough a hi cholesterol
eating program. Also, as a short-term plan it does not elevate cholesterol levels; instead it lifts the amount of “good” cholesterol in the
body and rectifies the ratio of HDL to LDL. As a long-term diet though, the Atkins plan can
have a certain amount of perverse effects like increasing heart problems.
